Flash CS4 Classic Tweens Cause Constant Crashing! UPDATE

This entry was posted on Nov 18 2008

UPDATE: It doesn’t seem to just be the classic tweens. Any type of tween (Classic, Motion, or Shape) that I create causes flash to crash after working with it for a couple of minutes. I’m seeing the crash happen when I’m trying to move frames around on the timeline.

It’s 11:30am and I’ve already had my new copy of Flash CS4 crash on me 5 times. Each crash has been related to a classic tween in some sort of way. Either moving the frames around, or even just creating the tween causes flash to crash.

So far there doesn’t seem to be a method that works besides not using classic tweens.

Anyone else having this problem? Maybe it’s just my system? I’m running XP 64-bit.

  1. same here bro… the exact same problem with Flash CS4… crashing when i move the frames around… glad to hear it’s not just me… i’m running it under Vista 64 and Xp 32… same shit!
My machine: CPU: Intel Q6600, 4GB DDR, Video: ATI HD 3870… did you solved the problem eventually??

  2. I fixed it by not using it and going back to CS3! I normally don’t use timeline tweens anyways, so this isn’t a deal buster for me. However if I need to do some banners or anything simple like that, I’m having to use CS3 for now.

    Waiting on an update, Adobe!

  3. Hi, I am experiencing regular crashes with flash CS4 too, mine doesn’t follow a pattern though, it happened few times while browsing through the library items or preview the motion preset tool or during publish preview. It is so annoying. I even re installed vista 32 bit, turning the kaspersky antivirus didnt help either.

dpcdpc11, you have the same graphics card as me could it be the drivers I wonder? Andrew what is your graphics card?

I hope someone has a solution soon..

running vista 32 bit sp2 on dell xps420 4gb ram Ati radeon HD 3870

  4. Nope not the cards. I just purchased $600 more of different cards and same problem exists on my Vista 64 bit system.

  5. My cs4 flash crashes too. win xp64bit sp2. Its driving me crazy! I came here looking for a solution. Does the adobe staff know this??

  6. My understanding is the Adobe team knows about it, however my guess is they will focus more on 64 bit Vista systems rather than XP. With the release of their Linux 64bit player I would hope Adobe is working on other 64bit solutions.

  7. Flash CS4 is constantly crashing when i try to do any timeline classic tween. This
is beta (if not alpha) crap. Adobe is selling this junk for twice as much money here in europe.
    Thanks Adobe.

  8. Hey, me too!!!!! One day = 10 crashes. Just working on something, suddenly it crashes. It crashes on everything, time line, tween, saving file, importing etc.
Hope Adobe can solve this problem.

  9. Yes, crashes all the time when creating motion tweens, especially when adding filters, or 3d.

Seems to work fine when I open an actionscript 2.0 file … hahaha !!

Is it time to fill out a Letter of Software Destruction?

  10. Thank GOD for your page I thought I was loosing my mine. 6 weeks two hard drives 2 extra megs of ram and I just actually went out and bought a MAC Pro. Flash CS4 does nothing but crash on me. I can’t work on new files because it tells me I have low virtual memory. It corrupted CS3 files even backups I had saved as different names. I did the whole font clean up thing it didn’t work. I can’t install CS3 anymore because I just told them to cancal my windows version of the software so they could send me MAC disks they are in the mail and can’t be downloaded. And have you called for support? Talk about frustrating they pass you on to a Flash specialist… all she does is make you wait 20 minutes while she looks up your issue on the web I could do that!!!! Macromedia never should have sold that product. On a brighter note I have just spent the day testing their new Web InContext editing feature in Dreamweaver really great!

  11. Any solutions? Here it crashes when I publish the swf. Flash CS4 on Windows 7 64bit

  12. just save the fla in cs4 as a cs3-file and open it in again. that should resolve your problems.
    cheers, björn
